It's no secret that during the Winter of 2015 Boston has been covered with more snow than ever before--or at least more snow since they have been keeping track for the last hundred plus years. It's March 18th and we still have a back yard sitting under about a foot and a half of snow covering the grass. I know that there will still be snow on the ground next month. April Fools! Except, it's no joke.
That said, the roads are clean and the sun is starting to make a dent in the mountains of ice as the no-longer-white snow slowly melts away. The temperatures have been mild (you know I must have been traumatized by this winter if I think anything above 30 is practically the tropics) and that means one thing: time to hit the dump and do some treasure hunting.
Yesterday I ventured out to the Needham Town Dump to see what goodies might await disocvery. As you can see by this picture, and the one below, I was thinking of my own town dump when I created the art for Glamorous Garbage that is shown at the top of the page. Here is a closer look.
My guess is that most people have been hibernating all winter instead of getting head starts on their spring cleaning. There was not a lot to be found of the kind of old stuff I particularly look for that loves to be "remade" into something new and exciting--the kinds of objects that have possibilities beyond their former lives.
But I did come away with what appears to be two magnetic boards. They are an inch deep and ready to hang. Wonder what they should be? They need some cleaning up and some fun paint. Maybe bulletin boards? Maybe I should paint faces on them and create magnetic mustaches, hair-dos, hats, etc.? Maybe I will just use them as surfaces to paint on.
That's the fun of the dump or a good yard sale: you never know what to expect and if you are lucky a visit will give you ideas for thinking up fun projects.
Each one is about 15 inches square. What do YOU think I should do? To be continued....
