I've been absent for a while from this blog. Life and art has kept me drawn in another direction. But my focus is back and I am back to books and art and also thrilled to announce that the latest adventures of Bobbie and Joanie have been noted. My latest book, Glamorous Garbage, was put on the "MUST READ" list by the Massachusetts Center for the Book on Tuesday. I feel very honored; this state has an abundance of great authors and illustrators and they all produce wonderful books for children. Seven of us as authors of picture books made the list. You can check out the complete list of noted books here.
It was a glorious day, with a bright blue sky (as you can see) and a fairly mild temperature for December. The event took place at the Massachusetts State House in the center of Boston, which I am slightly embarrassed to admit I have never been to, even after living in the Boston area for more than 35 years. It was an impressive edifice to say the least. The dome was originally gilded by Paul Revere. As I walked the halls, I did have a sense of history. You can read more about the magnificent building here.
We gathered for some pictures then convened in the Great Hall for lunch and the awards ceremony.
Eventually those of us on the Must Read list were called up.
Here is the official certificate for Glamorous Garbage!

As any of you who work in this field know, writing and illustrating picture books is a labor of love if nothing else. One spends many long months and days of working on the story itself and then the art to illustrate that story. After all that hard work, I am so grateful for the recognition by the jury who selected the book! Heartfelt thanks!
