Part of it is the lack of time. Part of it is procrastination. But the bigger part of waiting a long time to take down my holiday decorations is the fact that I love the glow of the twinkly lights and the feeling it evokes.
And, so, here it is the middle of January and my decorations are still up. At some point I will finally take everything down, or, more likely, my husband will, since he is the get-it-done guy arond the house (thank goodness). And I will say to myself, "Why did I leave that up so long?" But when next year rolls around I will do the exact same thing.
One year, when we were living in Ithaca, NY, and the tree was freshly cut across the street, I actually left it up until February sometime. More recently, as the tree is more wintry than Christmasy, and it is white and no longer a live tree, I have been known to do the same. I might just cave in next year and call it my Winter Tree. And then, when I finally take it down, I will know that it's a sign that spring is right around the corner.
Anyone else loathe to take down their holiday decorations?
