I was recently interviewed by Monica Lee over at Smart Creative Women. Monica runs a great site that gives people the opportunity to hear about artistic journeys from the artists themselves. She also offers sage career advice and consultation if you are a working artist or creative person.
I was happy to share my history, even if I did reveal the extent to which I STILL have my Rockland County New York accent! I don't know about you, but I love getting to know the hows, whys, and wherefores that artists go through to get to where they end up. I truly enjoyed talking about my own winding life journey in the arts.
I am also sharing some pictures from my home as well as some new paintings. To be honest, everything in my life is pretty connected: the books, the art and the things I collect. Can't really take one thing away from the other. So go over to my other blogs, Design Rocket and Cats and Jammers Studio for more peeks into my studios and home!
Well, yes. Yes I do have more than one pair. I won't tell you exactly how many, but I just picked up my latest today ( a pair of striped illestevas to be exact, fitted with transiton progessive lenses) and while I was there I left another pair to be fitted with prescription lenses, too. I don't buy designer clothing, designer pocketbooks or fancy shoes (although I could develop a serious custom cowboy boot habit, given the chance), so my fashion vice of choice is eyewear.Lots of eyewear.
But Mr. Gok Wan says I should have more than one pair. Well, then, I say OK!!! Anyway, that's my story and I 'm stickin' to it!
Well I know I can write about glasses, and wear glasses, and collect glasses, and even EAT glasses...but who knew you could take pictures with glasses? Not me! And, yes, yes you can!! Check out this cool camera here!
Will someone please put these in my Christmas stocking????
Just when you thought you couldn't get enough images of eyewear in your life (or maybe I can't get enough images of eyewear in MY life) I come along and show you this.
Because if you really, really LOVED glasses, then you would just have to have this case for your iPad which is part of my Really Really Retro line of designs.
Seriously, some of my favorite designs are available at Solid Line Products and you should go on over and check them out. If glasses are not your thing, but you like retro design, then maybe you would prefer these.
Ok, so now I am totally out of the closet as the lover of eyewear that I am. After all, my book GlamorousGlasses didn't just develop out of thin air. I've lived it for 50 years!
So, imagine my total and absolute thrill to be doing the above: siging copies of the book at none other than my favorite optician's, Focal Point in Newton, MA! Neil, pictured below, and Joanne, his wife, ordered lots of copies of Glamorous Glasses to offer in their shop. They very thoughtfully suppport local authors, and often sell their signed books right there, but I think this time the book they are selling couldn't be more appropriate. Don't you agree?
Of course, signing GG in Focal Point has an enormous down side: I NEVER leave there without trying on potential new glasses for me to "need". Some gals love designer bags and others love expensive shoes. MY addiction is eyewear.
I tried on some purple cat eye frames and a pair of mottled brown glasses. Not quite right for me. In the end I actually left there with two new pairs that I had ordered my last time in the shop: one, a pair of green frames with slightly blue tinted lenses and the other pair are tortise shell frames, with purple lenses. I also not long ago got white frames with bright blue lenses.
I just did get a few other sets of frames, this time from Etsy. They are vntage and quite funky. One pair is bright yellow. I have always wanted yellow frames.....
What could be better than being a glasses wearing, fun lovin' Gal or Guy? Having a special someone else who also loves wearing glasses as much as you do! Couples wearing glasses together, stay together, or so I've heard it said.
Seriously, this cute couple is coming home to live at my house soon, because I found the lovebirds via artist Amy Flyn's latest HOLIDAY FOBOT SALE. What's that? You haven't met the FOBOTS yet? Well, you are in for a real treat, since Amy's art is about as much fun as it gets.
Check out her FOBOT site and take a look at what old tins, machine parts, and countless other gadgets and gizmos give birth to. I have several of her FOBOTS and a good number of them wear, what else, GLASSES!!
These are the glasses wearing, fun loving FOBOTS I already own. Well,at least some of them anyway, because I have others that I also HAD to have.
The thing about Amy's pieces is that each one is unique, so you never feel like you have completely satisfied your need to own yet another. Well, at least that's my story and I'm sticking to it. Please don't tell my husband.
Here are a few of the ther FOBOTS up for grabs this 2012 Holiday season.
I chose the ones with eyewear , of course! Get 'em while you still can!
If you love Mad Men, it is hard NOT to love Christina Hendricks' character, Joan Holloway. And if you love glasses, it's not hard to love her in great eyewear!
A good friend sent me a cringe-worthy interview of Ms. Hendricks which I will NOT post a link to, but that interview also called attention to a Beauty Pageant for glasses wearers! Yes, there is such a thing and you can enter.
Today this came in the mail. I thought something was up when the envelope had no return address.
At first I thought it was going to be a death threat because, while I love my Facebook friends, we do not always agree on politics. Will it have Anthrax? Will it tell me to stop or else? Will it threaten to make me change my wicked views?
I took a chance and opened it anyway. I have decided that someone is either going to demand ransom payment of a great pair of vintage glasses or I am going to send this person a great pair of vintage glasses, with a book. Signed even. And maybe buy that person a drink.
Unless it's a guy. And then, you can kidnap me. If you look like Ryan Gosling.
